De tubulær avvikene normaliserte seg i løpet av 3 måneder etter innleggelse Seponering av medikamentet gir ofte restitusjon eller partiell restitusjon av nyreskaden [4]. Monitorering av tubulusfunksjon og av nyrefunksjon (årlig kontroll av kreatinin, fosfat, urinstix og urin-protein hos risikopasienten kan redusere nyreskade assosiert til medikamentet [3]. Tenofovir alafenamide (TAF) er en erstatning for TDF som antas ha mindre skadelige effekter på nyrene [9], men langtidsdata foreligger ikke.
